My Faith Is Not in My Feelings

ReformedFaith and Trust

Full Text

I do not always feel close to God. There are seasons when the heavens feel silent, when prayer feels like speaking into an empty room, when the faith that once burned brightly seems reduced to embers. But my faith is not in my feelings. My faith is in the character of God, which does not change with my emotional weather. He is faithful when I feel faithless. He is near when I feel distant. He is at work when I see nothing happening. The disciples on the road to Emmaus did not recognize Jesus walking beside them — but He was there. I choose today to trust what I know over what I feel. I know that God is good. I know that He loves me. I know that He is faithful. I know that He has not abandoned me. These truths are the foundation I stand on when feelings fail. My faith is not a feeling — it is a choice, a commitment, a daily act of trust in the God who has never let me down.
