Psalm 91:1–2
Psalm 91 is one of the most beloved passages in all of Scripture — a sweeping declaration of God's protection over those who dwell in His presence. It has been prayed over soldiers going into battle, over children at bedtime, over travelers setting out on long journeys, and over families facing danger. It is not a magic formula; it is a faith declaration — the spoken acknowledgment that God is the ultimate protector, that His angels are real, and that those who trust in Him are under His covering. These declarations are for those who are afraid, those who are facing danger, those who are interceding for loved ones in harm's way, and those who simply need to be reminded that they are not alone.
I declare that the Lord is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust. I dwell in the shelter of the Most High and I rest in the shadow of the Almighty. No evil will befall me, no plague will come near my dwelling. He commands His angels concerning me to guard me in all my ways. I am not unprotected — I am covered by the God who neither slumbers nor sleeps.
I declare that the Lord is a shield around me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. He surrounds me on every side. The enemy cannot approach me without passing through the presence of God. I am not vulnerable — I am guarded. I lay down and sleep in peace, for the Lord alone makes me dwell in safety. I trust His protection over my life, my family, and my home.
I declare the protection of God over my household. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord — and the Lord will protect those who serve Him. I plead the blood of Jesus over every member of my family. I declare that no weapon formed against my household shall prosper. Angels are encamped around those who fear God, and I trust His covering over every person in my care.
I declare that the Lord goes before me and behind me, and His hand is upon me. I do not walk into any situation alone. He prepares the way ahead of me and guards my back. When I go out and when I come in, the Lord watches over me — from this time forth and forevermore. I walk in confidence, not because I am strong, but because the One who is with me is stronger than all.
