In the Long Hours of the Night

InterdenominationalAnxiety and Fear

Full Text

Keeper of Israel, who neither slumbers nor sleeps, The house is quiet, but my thoughts are not. Problems that seemed manageable during the day now feel enormous. I am replaying conversations, rehearsing tomorrow, and trying to solve what cannot be solved tonight. Help me release the day. Where I sinned, lead me to confession. Where I was wounded, begin Your healing. Where work remains unfinished, remind me that I am a creature who needs rest. Quiet my body and mind. Help me put away what stimulates fear and practice habits that welcome sleep. If rest does not come quickly, keep frustration from becoming another burden. Watch over the people and responsibilities I am tempted to guard through worry. The world continues under Your care while I sleep. Let Scripture become the final voice I hear tonight. Give me the peace to lie down, the patience to wait, and the wisdom to seek appropriate help if sleeplessness continues. Into Your hands I place this night. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Scripture References

Psalm 4:8

"In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety."

Psalm 63:6–8

"On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me."
