Father of all compassion, My parent is gone, and something foundational in my life has changed. No matter my age or the circumstances of our relationship, this death reaches deeply into my history, identity, family, and understanding of home. I grieve the person I knew and the place they occupied in my life. I grieve their voice, their stories, their familiar ways, and the moments I assumed we would still share. Their absence is revealing how much of my life was connected to theirs. Thank You for everything that was loving, faithful, generous, and good in our relationship. Help me remember these gifts with gratitude and carry forward what is worthy. Where our relationship was difficult, distant, or painful, receive that part of my grief as well. I may be mourning not only the parent who died, but also the relationship I wanted and never fully experienced. I may carry words that were never spoken, apologies that were never offered, questions that will not be answered, and wounds that remain unfinished. Give me permission to tell the truth without contempt, to forgive without denying harm, and to pursue healing without pretending the past was different from what it was. Release me from the belief that death requires me to idealize everything or silence my honest experience. When guilt tells me that I should have called more often, visited more frequently, spoken differently, or somehow prevented what happened, lead me toward truth and mercy. Show me what I should acknowledge, what I can learn, and what I must now release into Your hands. Help our family navigate the responsibilities and emotions that follow this death. Give us patience as we make decisions, sort belongings, settle affairs, remember the past, and adjust to changed family roles. Protect us from allowing possessions, money, old rivalries, or different ways of grieving to divide us. Lord Jesus, You promised not to leave Your people orphaned. Be near to me when I feel unexpectedly small, vulnerable, or alone. Remind me that my deepest identity and security rest in the love of God. Holy Spirit, comfort me in the waves of grief that come without warning. Help me preserve the stories that should be remembered, release what must not be carried forward, and receive the life that remains before me. I entrust my parent to Your mercy, and I entrust our whole unfinished story to Your care. Hold what was good, heal what was wounded, and guide me faithfully into the days ahead. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
