Grief

Lord, I am in pain. The loss is real, the absence is heavy, and the grief comes in waves I cannot predict or control. I do not understand why. I do not have the words to make sense of it. But I bring it to You — all of it — because You are the only One who can hold it. Be near to me in this darkness. Let me feel Your presence even when I cannot see Your face.

I am grieving, and that is right and human and holy. But I do not grieve as those who have no hope. The resurrection of Jesus Christ means that death is not the end, that separation is not permanent, and that every tear will one day be wiped away. I hold my grief and my hope together today, trusting that both are real and that God holds them both with me.

I declare that sorrow is not the end of my story. The God who turns mourning into dancing and ashes into beauty is at work even in my grief. I declare that this loss, as real and painful as it is, does not define my future. I declare that joy will come again — not because I deny the pain, but because I trust the God who promises to make all things new.

Father, I lift before You all who are grieving today — those who have lost a parent, a child, a spouse, a friend. Those whose grief is fresh and those whose grief is old and still unhealed. Be the Comforter You have promised to be. Send Your people to sit with them in their pain. Let them know that they are not alone, that their loved one is not forgotten, and that You are near.
