Prayers for

Anxiety and Fear

God does not condemn us for our anxiety. He meets us in it. These prayers bring every fear, worry, and racing thought before the One who holds all things — and who holds us.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

Philippians 4:6

Praying Through Anxiety and Fear

Anxiety is not a sign of weak faith. The Psalms are full of honest cries from people overwhelmed by fear. Jesus himself told his disciples not to be afraid — not because fear is shameful, but because there is a better place to bring it. These prayers are for the moments when worry feels louder than peace, when fear has a grip that reason cannot loosen. Bring it all to God. He is not surprised. He is not distant. He is near.

When Anxiety Feels Overwhelming

Lord, my thoughts are racing and my chest is tight. I cannot seem to find peace on my own. I bring this anxiety to you now — not because I have it figured out, but because you told me to. You are the God of all comfort. Still my mind. Slow my breathing. Remind me that you are here, that you are good, and that I am not alone. I cast this care on you, because you care for me. Amen.

A Prayer for Peace That Passes Understanding

Father, I ask for the peace that you promised — the peace that surpasses all understanding, the peace that guards my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. I cannot manufacture it. I cannot think my way to it. I receive it from you now, by faith. Guard my heart. Guard my mind. Let your peace stand watch where my worry has been standing. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Philippians 4:7Evangelical

When Fear Has a Name

God, I am afraid of something specific today, and I name it before you now: [name your fear]. I know that perfect love casts out fear. I know that you have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. I choose to trust you with this. I release it from my grip and place it in yours. You are bigger than what I fear. Amen.

A Nighttime Prayer for Anxious Thoughts

Lord, the night is quiet but my mind is not. Thoughts I pushed away during the day have returned. I give them to you now. You neither slumber nor sleep — you are awake and watching over me. Let me rest in that truth. I lie down and sleep in peace, because you alone make me dwell in safety. Amen.
