Father, I am near the end of this life, and I am trying to hold it with open hands. The treatment has done what it can do. The doctors are speaking of comfort now, of palliative care, of making the time that remains as good as it can be. And I find, in this strange place, that I am not only afraid — I am also, somehow, at peace. Not because I am not sad. Not because I do not love the people I am leaving. But because I believe that You are on the other side of this, and that what You have prepared for those who love You is beyond what I can imagine. I ask for a good death — a death without unnecessary suffering, surrounded by love, at peace with You and with the people I have walked through this life with. And I ask for the grace to let go when it is time, trusting that the One who gave me life will receive me on the other side of it.
