Father of all compassion, My brother or sister is gone, and part of my own history feels as though it has been taken away. We shared people, places, memories, family stories, and experiences that no one else can understand in quite the same way. Whether we were close throughout life or separated by distance, disagreement, or different paths, this death has changed my family and changed me. Someone who knew where I came from is no longer here to remember it with me. I grieve the conversations we will not have, the family gatherings that will feel incomplete, and the future moments I assumed we would share. I grieve the ordinary familiarity of this relationship—the jokes, irritations, loyalties, comparisons, disagreements, and memories that belonged uniquely to us. Lord Jesus, You met Mary and Martha in the grief of losing their brother. You did not dismiss their sorrow or remain distant from it. Draw near to me now and receive everything this loss has awakened. If our relationship was loving, help me give thanks without being overwhelmed by absence. If it was strained or unfinished, receive the regret, anger, confusion, and longing I may carry. Help me tell the truth without cruelty, forgive without denying harm, and release the conversations that can no longer occur. I may also be grieving for my parents, my sibling's spouse or children, and everyone whose life has been changed by this death. Give me compassion for their sorrow without requiring me to neglect my own. Remind others that sibling grief is real and should not be overlooked. When family roles and responsibilities begin to shift, give us wisdom. Protect us from old rivalries, misunderstandings, financial disputes, and competing claims about who is grieving most deeply. Teach us to make room for each person's relationship and sorrow. If I am now the only surviving sibling, or if this death makes me newly aware of my own mortality, steady me. Help me live faithfully without being ruled by fear. Holy Spirit, preserve the memories that should be cherished. Heal the wounds that should not be carried into another generation. Give me strength for anniversaries, holidays, and unexpected moments when grief returns. I entrust my sibling to Your mercy and our shared story to Your care. Thank You for the life that was lived, the love that was given, and every good thing that remains within me because we were brother and sister. Carry me through this loss and awaken hope within me again. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
