Prayers for

Marriage and Family

Families are formed by love and tested by life. These prayers cover the full range — from the joy of new beginnings to the hard work of repair, from praying for children to praying through conflict.

"Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain."

Psalm 127:1

Praying for Marriage and Family

No family is without struggle. No marriage is without seasons of difficulty. These prayers are for the full reality of family life — the celebrations and the conflicts, the milestones and the mundane, the seasons of closeness and the seasons of distance. They are for spouses who want to love each other better, for parents who feel inadequate, for children who are struggling, and for families that are broken and hoping for restoration.

A Prayer for a Marriage

Lord, we did not build this marriage on our own strength, and we cannot sustain it on our own strength. We need you at the center. Teach us to love each other the way you love us — patiently, sacrificially, without keeping score. When we hurt each other, give us the grace to forgive. When we drift apart, draw us back together. Be the foundation that holds when everything else shakes. Amen.

Ephesians 5:25; Colossians 3:13Evangelical

For a Marriage in Crisis

Father, this marriage is in a hard place. We are hurting each other and we do not know how to stop. We need help that is beyond us. Soften hearts that have grown hard. Heal wounds that have gone deep. Give us the courage to seek help, the humility to receive it, and the hope that you can restore what feels broken. We do not give up. We bring this to you. Amen.

Malachi 2:16; Matthew 19:26Evangelical

A Parent's Prayer for Their Children

God, these children are yours before they are mine. I hold them with open hands. Protect them from harm I cannot see. Give them faith that is their own, not just inherited. Guide them into the purposes you have for them. And when I fail as a parent — which I will — cover my mistakes with your grace and let your love reach them where mine falls short. Amen.

Proverbs 22:6; Psalm 127:3Evangelical

For a Prodigal Child

Lord, my child has walked away — from faith, from family, from the path I prayed they would walk. My heart is broken. I cannot force them back. But you are the God who runs to meet the returning son. I pray for their return. Keep them safe. Let your love pursue them. And give me the grace to keep the door open, to keep praying, and to keep trusting you with what I cannot control. Amen.

Luke 15:20Evangelical
