Father, tomorrow I go under the knife — or into the scanner, or into the procedure room — and I am afraid. I am afraid of what they will find, of what they will remove, of what my body will feel afterward. I am afraid of anesthesia and of waking up to news I am not ready for. I bring all of it to You now. I ask You to guide the hands of my surgeon, the eyes of my radiologist, the judgment of every person in that room. Let them be skilled and attentive and unhurried. Let nothing be missed. Let nothing go wrong that does not have to go wrong. And when I wake, let me know that You were with me in the room I could not see, doing what I could not do for myself. I trust my body to You.
