When the One Who Shared My Life Is Gone

InterdenominationalGrief and Loss

Full Text

Father of all compassion, The person who shared my life is gone, and I do not know how to inhabit this life without them. Their absence is present in every room, every routine, every decision, and every quiet moment. The future we imagined together has changed, and I am grieving not only the person I loved, but also the life we expected to share. Lord Jesus, You wept at the grave of Lazarus. You do not stand far away from human sorrow. Draw near to me now. Receive my tears, my questions, my loneliness, my anger, and even the moments when I cannot find words to pray. When the silence feels unbearable, remind me that I am not alone. When memories bring both gratitude and pain, help me receive them without fear. When ordinary responsibilities feel overwhelming, give me strength for the next necessary thing—not the whole journey at once, but enough grace for today. Thank You for the life we shared and for every expression of love, faithfulness, forgiveness, joy, and companionship that remains part of me. Help me honor that love without believing that my own life has ended. Surround me with people who will listen patiently, remember faithfully, and remain present when others have returned to their routines. Protect me from isolation and despair. Give me permission to grieve without apology and to heal without guilt. Holy Spirit, Comforter and Giver of Life, carry me through this valley. Hold me when I cannot hold myself. Preserve my faith when I feel numb, and slowly awaken hope within me again. I entrust the one I love to Your mercy, and I entrust my unfinished life to Your care. Until sorrow is finally overcome and every tear is wiped away, keep me near to You. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
